Join the GATOR Lab

Open Positions (Fall 2026)

We are currently seeking two fully funded PhD students to join our team.

1. GeoAI & Scalable Analytics

Focus on cloud-native workflows, Large Language Models (LLMs) for geospatial reasoning and and scalable geospatial data science.

2. Climate Resilience & Coastal Informatics

Primarily work on the “Future Shorelines” project to model sea-level rise and coastal change, and bring cutting-edge computing to solve an environmental problem.

We also welcome original research proposals that align with the lab’s core mission and expertise.

What We Value

Above all, we value intellectual curiosity and a critical mindset. We are looking for researchers who don’t just apply tools, but interrogate them. We are not afraid to ask interesting but difficult questions, and engage with challenging problems. You will thrive here if you are passionate about open science and eager to solve complex spatial problems through a data-science lens.

Requirements

  • MS degree: We are looking for candidates with a masters degree or equivalent in GIScience, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Geography or a related field.
  • Research: Peer-reviewed publications are not a hard requirement but we expect candidates to have a track record of research.
  • Satisfying all UF graduate admission requirements if an offer is made.

How to Apply

Review of applications is ongoing. Please email Dr. Levente Juhász (join@gatorlab.io — Note: UF email available Jan 2026) with:

  1. Your CV and a link to your GitHub/Portfolio.
  2. A Brief Statement of Interest explaining WHY GATOR Lab and HOW you fit our pillars. This is very important. We are not just looking for researchers, we are looking for the right fit. Be creative, authentic, and tell us why want to join the GATOR Lab.
